Watermelon Jolly-Rancher Earflap Hat (with pattern!)

Pattern: My own

Yarn: Cascade “Nikki” 100% wool, bulky weight

Comments: This hat is lumpy but I lurv it.

Bulky Earflap Hat Pattern
This hat is knit from the bottom-up in one piece. No sewing on of earflaps required!

Materials:
*  I used 1 Skein of Cascade Yarns “Nikki� (100% wool,100 gr =110 yards) but any bulky weight yarn should work
*  size 10 (or size needed to obtain gauge) 16’ circular needle and dpns
*  stitch holder
*  tapestry needle
*  crochet hook of same size as needles (size J10 if using size 10 needles)

Gauge: 3 sts = 1’

Earflaps (make two):
Using circular needle CO 3 stitches
Row 1: Knit
Row 2: Kfb, k1, kfb
Row 3: Purl
Row 4: Kfb, k3, kfb
Row 5: Purl
Row 6: Kfb, k5, kfb
Row 7: Purl
Row 8: Kfb, k7, kfb
Row 9: Purl
Row 10: Kfb, k9, kfb (13 sts)
Row 11: Purl
Work 7 more rows in st st (knitting the even rows and purling the odd rows) ending with a purl row.
For the first earflap: Break yarn (leaving a 6-8’ tail) and place live stitches on holder
On the second earflap: No need to break the yarn

Connecting the earflaps:
Knit across the earflap that is still on the circular needle.
CO 28 sts (these will be the front of the hat)
Put the earflap from the holder on the left-hand side of the circular needle and knit across it.
CO 16 sts (back of the hat)
Join (being careful not to twist!) for knitting in the round
70 sts on circular needle

Knit even until work measures 5� from top of earflaps

Decreases:
Place a stitch marker in the middle of the back of hat stitches, 8 stitches in from the edge of the right earflap. This will be the beginning of the round.
Round 1: [K8, k2tog] repeat 7 times
Round 2: K
Round 3: [K7, k2tog] repeat 7 times
Round 4: K
Round 5: [K6, k2tog] repeat 7 times
Round 6: K
Round 7: [K5, k2tog] repeat 7 times
Round 8: K
Round 9: [K4, k2tog] repeat 7 times
Round 10: K
Round 11: [K3, k2tog] repeat 7 times
Round 12: K
Round 13: [K2, k2tog] repeat 7 times
Round 14: K
Round 15: [K1, k2tog] repeat 7 times
Round 16: K
Round 17: [K2tog] repeat 7 times

Cut yarn leaving a 6-8� tail. Thread yarn tail through remaining stitches and pull tight to close. Weave in ends.

Finishing:

Work one round of single crochet around the edge of hat.

Block if desired.
