Hemlock Hoodie
Hot damn do I love this sweater.
Hemlock Hoodie Specs:
Pattern: A blend of Starsky and the Central Park Hoodie. And by “blend” what I really mean is that I stole the cables and the gauge from Starsky and plugged them into the Central Park Hoodie with a completely different yarn (yay!).
Yarn: Peace Fleece Worsted colorway “Hemlock”. Hence the name.
Hemlock Hoodie meets Hemlock Tree
Mods: Basically the whole thing was a mod (see above under “Pattern”) but I also shortened the sleeves and fixed the bottom ribbing so that it meshed with the cable and also made the button band a bit more giant because I was worried the sweater was coming out too small. I also knit everything in the round up to the armpits. I did not add waist shaping because I was in some kind of daze and by the time I realized I had forgotten them I was 10″ into the body. Oops.
Buttons: big and wooden
Time to Knit: December 7(ish) - March 15
You may remember the sleeves from my little episode of Sleeve Madness. Unfortunately The Madness was even deeper than it first appeared. I actually knit these sleeves twice (4 sleeves total). The first one was when I was still planning to make Starsky and it came out too small. Then I figured that I would knit the 2nd sleeve with the same yarn and the same needles and over the same number of stitches but somehow it would come out bigger. Yeah, the 2nd sleeve was too small also. When I re-knit the sleeves again I used more stitches.
You would think that knitting the sleeves twice would have slowed me down but I actually knit this sweater in record time (considering the non-bulky gauge and the cables and the set-in sleeves). This I attribute to a crazy sweater lust that stayed with me for the entire project. I really really wanted this sweater (and now I have it, ha!).
I think I am getting better at visualizing the finished object as I am knitting and as a result I am more and more demanding that I finish them (because I want to wear them) rather than getting distracted.
I am very excited that this sweater came out just the way I wanted it.
Oso likes it too.
