Closer Than Usual

Since the Koolhaas pattern is inspired by the Seattle library I thought it would be neat to knit it while I was visiting Seattle. I didn’t actually make it to the library but I was close.

Koolhaas Hat

Pattern: Koolhaas from Interweave Knits Holiday 2007

Yarn: Simply Shetland color: Lichen

I knit this hat for my brother Max (it is being modeled by my bf Lou because Max lives in Bellingham). Poor Max nagged me all summer to knit this hat for him but I took forever. I finally cast on during my recent trip to Seattle (okay it was in September). Although I didn’t get a lot of knitting done on that trip I did finish it up within the month.

Now it’s on its way to Max. Hope he likes it!

I had knit this pattern once before also as a gift, for my friend Pat. When I knit that hat I swore I would never knit this pattern again because it was a big pain. I prefer simple knits that I can work on while I read and with cable crossings every other row this hat definitely does not fit the bill. However, the results are so gorgeous and I think it is the perfect fancy-but-manly hat pattern so I knit it again for my brother.

Then I got jealous. Why should Pat and Max have all the best hats?

Koolhaas for ME!

Pattern: Koolhaas!

Yarn: Aslan Trends Del Cerro.

I loved this yarn. The stitch definition is great and the yarn is enormously soft and squishy. It was very different from the other two yarns I have used for this hat which were both lighter and drapier. My hat ended up really warm and comfy so I am really happy.

Also it matches my current favorite scarf!

All your pictures look like they were taken somewhere cold. I’m glad I don’t live in Alaska.

YAY! They both look great. I want to knit another one. I really really love my green one which is out of lambs pride & I want another one out of the same wool. It’s such a squishy hat!!!

    Hey,
I knit this hat using the directions for cableing with out a cable needle by http://www.grumperina.com/cables.htm and it was so much better that way. i am sure this info would have been so much more helpful at the start rather than the end

I love both the Koolhaas hats, but the green is my favourite. I still need to try knitting that pattern.

Yes, Koolhaas might be my fave hat ever!! Love both your versions:) And I second the cabling w/o a cable needle, too!

I love the hats! I tried knitting koolhaas once, but ran out of yarn. Now I’m once again bumping it up on my queue…

Those hats look great! I still haven’t knit a Koolhaas hat…all of the cable crossings make it seem sort of daunting for such a small project.

Your hats are looking great. And I love seeing these glimpses of your beautiful Alaska.
I never knew the Koolhaas is a cabled hat… never thought about how it is done because it looked much too complicated for me… gosh, that’s a lot of cable crossings! WOW. Congratulations on these beautiful hats!
