Socktoberfest!
October is here and with it one of my favorite month-long celebrations: Socktoberfest!
In a most timely manner I have just finished what might have been one of my favorite projects ever:
Super Stripey Noro Knee Socks (raveled here)
Pattern: My own. Toe-up sock with short-row heels. I did some increasing around a back “seam stitch” based on trying the socks on a bunch to determine the shaping. At the top I decreased 8 stitches around and ended with 2×2 rib. These actually stay up remarkably well and I haven’t decided if they need elastic or not yet.
Yarn: Noro Kureyon Sock – I managed to squeeze these out of 1 skein and I had a tiny ball of yarn about the size of a dime leftover.
Needles: I used size 0s. Don’t knit knee socks on size 0s, it’s crazy!
Thoughts: Absolute yarny love. I want to make another pair already. On size 0s. Crazy!
I originally wanted to dedicate this whole month to knitting only socks but it seems that I’m mostly celebrating Socktoberfest by buying sock yarn…
It is the weather getting in my way. It is freezing! Rigth now it is 43 F but to me it feels much colder (I think it was colder this morning on my dogwalk because the puddles were frozen).
In the interest of not being so cold I am knitting a new wooly hat and a pair of lightweight gloves and maybe even a scarf or some mitts (probably not all this month, but I am going to start!) and some gift accessories also so that my friends won’t be cold either.
However, I do have one pair of socks left on the needles that will definitely see some action before the end of Socktoberfest.
These are the Evening Stockings for a Young Lady (rav link) knit in Cascade Heritage Sock Yarn. The pattern is from Nancy Bush’s Knitting Vintage Socks and I really like it so far although I had to try 3 different yarns before I found a suitable one to get gauge and not pool.
That’s all for now!
Wish me luck staying warm!

Great socks! Makes me wish I’d made my Noro stripeys knee high too. Hope they keep you warm and cozy as the cold season sets in.
Oh, I love these! I’m so tempted to break my “no new yarn” rule for a skein of Kureyon Sock so that I can make myself a stripey pair like these.
YOur socks are beautiful!!!! YOu are crazy
I love the lace socks, how are you likeing the cascade heritage? I just bought two skiens. I really like the colors & the yardage seems quite generous.
Love the Noro knee socks! They look so cozy and ready for fall and winter. I just bought that same color of Cascade for my first pair of socks. =) Maybe I’ll get to work on them during Socktoberfest. Still trying to decide on a pattern though!
So beautiful! Lovely shots by the sea, too. wow!
