Hoot N Holler

I went on a vacation last week! I didn’t get a chance to blog before I left but now I’m back and I finally uploaded my pictures so I can tell you about it!

This is where I went:

Idaho Inlet

Oso went too

I went on a cabin trip with 8 of my favorite people (and my dog!) to my friend’s cabin which is located in Idaho Inlet (somewhere between Elfin Cove and Pelican along Icy Straight). Hoot N Holler is actually a collection of a few cabins belonging to 3 families. In addition to their three family cabins there is a communal boathouse, food-room/living room and bunkhouse for guests. We were there for 6.5 days during which we fished, read, ate delicious home-cooked food (lots of fresh fish) and of course I knit (a lot).

Once again I took very sporadic pictures (most of them are of the dog) but here are the highlights anyways:

How we got there

Not just any otter

Oso by the bunkhouse

I thought this rock was really cool

I made Oso wear a bell so that he wouldn’t go feral

As for the knitting, it was pretty crazy but awesome. I had tons of time to knit and I devoted myself to finishing my Rabobank Sweater for the Tour de France Knitalong (best knitalong ever).

I almost finished! I was delayed because I had to knit the entire yoke 2.5 times! My friends understood when I ripped it the first time because the slit at the collar was not deep enough but they all thought I was insane when I ripped it out the 2nd time because I messed up the saddle-shoulder decreases somewhere.

Check it out!

I can’t believe that I had a whole week of uninterrupted knitting time and all I knit was that crazy yoke!

I even wove in all the ends! The only thing left to do is dye and sew in the snap tape that I got to use as a closure at the collar and in the pockets.

I would be done already but no one will let me use their cook-pots for dyeing so I have to get one from the thrift store.

I’m so proud of myself for working so hard on this sweater and finally finishing it up! I definitely couldn’t have done it without the support of my teammates in the Tour de France KAL.

Thanks so much you guys!!!

Have I ever told you that you have a cute dog? He’s awesome, I may dognap him someday. I love your blog posts with the beautiful pictures of Alaska, too, I am quite jealous!

Wow, those are amazing pictures! Amazing to me because I’ve never been to any part of Alaska. Maybe someday. It’s absolutely beautiful.

Nice sweater, too! I knit my son a sweater with that sort of pocket, following the directions in The Sweater Workshop, a few years ago, and I keep meaning to make one for myself. I have the yarn and everything–I’ve had it for ages. It just seems so comfy. :)

Visiting from the TdF KAL (agree with you - it’s the best KAL isn’t it!). Love your Rabobank sweater - just fabulous! I know they are team colours too but the orange and blue you’ve chosen just work so well together! Congratulations!

Love the Alaska pics - a place I guess I’ll never get to, it looks so gorgeous.

Your sweater looks fantastic! I absolutely adore it. Can’t wait to see it with the snap tape, and modeled!

Those pictures look magical. I’ve been itching to vacation somewhere cool-ish (temperature wise), but unfortunately all the cool places are really far away. So I’m just going to stare at your photos and pretend I’m there, ok?

Awesome pictures! Your dog is the cutest. I’m sure he was *so* excited to wear a bell lol. Sounds like you had a good time. Can’t wait to see you model the sweater :D

Alli, Thanks for telling me about your amazing website! i looked at every single thing you posted, even the crocheted scarf. i love the photos and how you sometimes put several of the same item but in different poses or with people wearing them. Loved looking at the sweater with the zipper that you wore to drawing one day last spring and then the beautiful green one with the hood and buttons! Did you ever finish your octopus gloves? Oso looks like a really nice dog. Your Rabobank sweater is just amazing. I will keep looking at your website for sure because of all the good information. I want to knit more. Just finished two little hats for my nephews and am starting those socks i mentioned today. I am very impressed with your work!! Cheers, Alli!

What a beautiful place (and Oso looks fab with the bell on - good for “real” bears, too)!

    The sweater looks wonderful :)

I know I am way late in responding to this post. But I just had to comment on the excellent idea to have your dog wear a bell while at the cabin! Thank you for sharing this idea. I totally plan to use this when we go to our cabin next fall. Kaiser (my dog) obeys more often than not, but when the “not” happens, I get a bit panicky…
