Crisis

Sorry for the Blog Silence lately. I have a new job and haven’t been knitting very much at all.

There has been progress on a variety of different knits (all Project Spectrummy goodness). I hope to update soon on those projects but unfortunately the weather is not cooperating at the moment.

Anyways I do have a crisis that I need your advice on. Yes, YOUR ADVICE. Please help me.

I want to make a Tomten Jacket for a little bambino that belongs to a couple friends of mine. He is turning 1 year old next month and has finally outgrown the sweater I made him last year after wearing it all winter.

I decided that I wanted to do it in green with brown trim and I went to the yarn store and picked out some yarn. I liked the colors at the time but once I got them home I began to have doubts. Then, I showed them to my mom and she said they were definitely too dark for a baby boy. Then, I showed them to a friend and she said they were not too dark.

Here they are:

The green is pretty accurate in this picture.

The brown is more accurate in this picture.

What do you think? Is this color combo too sophisticated for a baby boy? Would it be cuter if I went back and tried to find something brighter? Maybe this would be good because it wouldn’t get dirty as fast?

All opinions greatly appreciated!

ETA: I went back to the yarn store:

Colors accurate on my monitor except for the buttons which are actually the same as the yarn.

Is it better?

I’d definately go with a brighter more leafy green. It would make bambino spotting much easier for the parents now that they have to deal with mobility. A brighter green would also just be more summer appropriate (plus you could put cute little bug buttons on it). Stick with the brown trim though, it’s a cute idea, just needs to be brighter.

For little boys, it is all about the orange. Find a nice rusty orange. Both my boys loved orange. I think it would look really nice with a brown trim. I think you are right the color palette above being too sophisticated for a boy.

Whatever you do make sure it is washable. :)

Both colours look good to me - not everything for a baby boy has to be bright blue or red. You could jazz it up with some cute buttons!
Is that Cascade 220? Is it superwash?

Well I know nothing about children, but I think it would be refreshing to see a color that isn’t your typical “baby” color. I really like these colors together!

I LOATHE pastels and always try to knit baby stuff in colors like you’ve chosen. Play on, player!

absolutely not too dark - those are lovely and sophisticated colors for a small person! I get so tired of pastels and primaries for the wee ones…

Oooh, I love the green/brown pair at the very bottom…so nice and earthy! And the buttons are adorable, too.

Babies always look so beautiful in bright, deep, rich, proud colours. Pastels on babies is so predictable and bland. You are right to choose darker shades!

Much better! It’s a fierce combo now!

I think you can put any kid in any color! The day we had a customer call and asked “is it baby blue enough for a baby boy?” when i was describing a light blue color to her i decided that the whole light pastel baby colors (and only blue and green for boys and pink and yellow for girls) is so so silly. Do what you think is best!

I love all the colors but the green in the last is beyond yummy!

I like the newer color green. It is a pleasant color, the earlier version was just too dark for my liking. This is a bit brighter but not neon and not pastel. I think it will make a fun tomten.

Glad a crisis was averted; it was pins and needles for awhile. Love the new color selection.

i don’t think it’s too dark, but the brown looks purple. and the first green looks like blue. is it my eyes? what’s the matter with me?
