Ziggy and Zaggy

I actually finished knitting these socks a couple months ago but due to lack of darning needle, motivation and good picture taking weather they languished undocumented all that time.

My bf Lou (master of puters, film, audio and in fact anything remotely electronic) works with some friends of his who have their own business. They do comics, short films, and are now venturing into the land of prints, cards and t-shirts. Their online shop isn’t up yet but their website is here. I bring all this up because recently Lou set up a light-box for taking pictures of t-shirts and stuff for the online store. I thought that helping him test it would be the perfect time to take some pictures of my long-suffering socks.

Here they are!

As you can see these two pairs are not just both green socks but they are both green zig-zag socks. I am in a rut apparently.

Zig-Zag Socks

Pattern: Basically I just plugged a stitch pattern (from the 365 Knitting Stitches Calender) into the Yarn Harlot’s Sock Recipe. I did a twisted ribbing at the top because I thought it matched the stitch pattern I chose better.

Yarn: TOFUtsies by Southwest Trading Company. This yarn was a gift from my Sock Pal Valerie who knit me these awesome socks. This yarn surprised me. I thought it was just a fad because of the Chitin content but I really liked it! It was great for this lacey pattern and made really light, soft, comfy socks.

Also: Even though I knit really tall socks I had a ton, a ton of yarn leftover. Enough, I think for a whole nother pair of socks! I gave the rest of the yarn to a friend of mine who likes ankle socks and has small feet just to be on the safe side.

Pattern: Mock Wave Cable Socks from Interweave’s Favorite Socks book.

Yarn: Artyarns Ultramerino 4

I really like this yarn for socks and I enjoyed this pattern but I don’t think the two were really made for each other.

These socks were named the Snake Socks by Lou because they look like this when they do not have feet in them:

Eeew, snake skin socks!

I knit these socks while I re-read the last 3 (and the new) Harry Potter books this summer and I thought the whole snake theme + Harry Potter was quite grand and appropriate. Also: they are really comfy and I love them.
