A Last Hurrah
Here in Gustavus we have had pretty much the best summer that anyone could ever hope for…ever.
There have been flowers, berries and the one thing that is normally in quite short supply in SE Alaska: Sunshine.
Sadly, even good things must come to an end. My first day of classes for fall semester is August 30th so summer is almost over for me.
Although break is ending I’m hoping that the season can hold out just a little bit longer because I have two more summer projects on the needles:
Zig-Zag Socks in Tofutsies yarn
This yarn was a gift from my Sockapalooza Pal Valerie
I think this is a good yarn for summer socks because it has some cotton in it. It feels very light and fresh. I really like the color too…mmm…green…
My other project is more of a transition piece than a proper summer knit (I say that only because it is something other than socks):
The start of a Leaf T-Shirt by Melissa at Knitting School Dropout in Silky Wool
I really like this so far, can’t beat the top-down raglan for sweater making in my book. I’m also completely enamored with the yarn which is very soft and a very nice green.
I’m just past binding off for the sleeves and the only problem is I think it is coming out too big. If my calculations are correct I am getting zero ease instead of the recommended negative ease. I haven’t decided yet if I will be happy with it a little looser (I’ll be wearing things under it anyways) or if I need to rip back.
I have to decide soon if I plan to get any wear out of it before it gets too cold!
P.S. I ripped. I tried the top on and it was even bigger than I had feared. However, now that I am knitting a more reasonable circumference it is all going much faster and I am already back past the point where I ripped. Thank goodness for top-down raglans!

The leaf shirt is lookin’ good. I am thinking of making the somewhat cowl (from Knit n Tonic) with the silky wool. Whatcha think?
2 nice green projects! I do hope you get them done before the end of the summer : )
There’s been so much lovely green on this blog lately – enjoy the last of summer!
