The Problem With Socks (and socks in progress)

is that they do not make for very interesting blogging.

In the interest of having something to show for a week’s worth of knitting I present to you my socks in progress:

1. Basic Sock as per the recipe in Knitting Rules except I did a pointy star toe. These are made slightly more interesting because they are my first koigu socks.

I think these would have been really really good as Monkey socks with the little picot edging but the yarn was too pooly. Grr.

2. I started some Jaywalkers!

I found this yarn in the very depths of my stash. I think I bought it something like 3-4 years ago with the intention of making these gloves. Obviously, that didn’t work out and I found the yarn again when I was looking for potentially sock-ish yarns when I left for Gustavus. Perfect!

3. Last night I started the Chalet Socks from Nancy Bush’s Folk Socks (which I found at the library).

The other socks I’m working on were too boring even to photograph. I am up to the toe on my 2nd Kew sock and I cast-on for my 2nd Sockapalooza Sock.

If you thought this post was the most boring post ever then I’m afraid I have bad news: The sock bug shows no sign of waning and I brought only sock yarn to Gustavus. Since I’ve been here I have accumulated a couple skeins of not-sock yarn but I’ve been inventing possible sock-like uses for it. Such as “felted slipper socks” and “house socks”

Also: I posted my entire Stashie Jr. (child of Stashie Monster back home)/Gustavus Stash on Ravelry. Fun!

Bonus Pic cuz Glaciers are cool:

The yarn in that jaywalker is stunning. Unt dat.

It’s my dream to eventually live somewhere where I can see ice in June.

I think socks are plenty interesting to blog about. :) All those sock look very nice, especially the Jaywalkers -I love the subtle waves of color.

Don’t worry — your socks are beautiful! I love the yarns you are using, and the glacier pic is lovely.

I really like the Jaywalkers, also. I’m telling you, they never come out like that for me.
Also, yes. The glacier picture rocks. It was in the 90’s here yesterday and I almost died riding my bike home– doesn’t it stay light until like 10pm in Alaska, also? Awesome. I wish I had some excuse to go north for the summer.

I love socks! I’m working on a pair of Jaywalkers, too. And the Chalet socks are one of my favorites!

I almost started drooling when I saw the Jaywalkers yarn! Do you remember the name?
P.S. the socks are not boring, they just make me wish it wasn’t too hot to even think about putting socks on my feet up here! I dreaming of nice, rainy coastal summers…
