New Hats!

Two new hats. I finished these up a few days ago:

maze hat

Pattern: Maze Hat from Summer Knitty

Yarn: Hemp for Knitting “allhemp6″ (ha! The recommended yarn for once!)

Modifications: I changed the bottom of the hat to make it more bowl-shaped because I have a hat that shape that I really like… It didn’t really work though:

dork

I just look like a dork. I still like it though! I think the stitch pattern is really cool. It reminds me of M.C. Escher.

My other (slightly more successful) hat:

beaufort hat

Pattern: Beaufort Hat (pattern here). The author of this pattern has a really nice blog (more patterns!), check it out!

Yarn: Rowan Tapastry, this stuff is soft! I think it knits a little like mohair, or at least rips a little like mohair, I had to knit the top part of this hat twice (I made it too short the first time) and it was hard to take out.

Modifications: I had to adjust the pattern a little bit because the Rowan Tapastry is a dk yarn and the pattern calls for something in ww. I just added a couple pattern repeats and made it a bit longer before I did the top decreases and that seemed to do the trick.

Comments: I really like this hat, it is very soft and comfortable. I couldn’t make up my mind at first whether this yarn was too busy for the fancy stitch pattern but I have decided now that I like it.

I like it! I think that yarn looks great with the stitch pattern. Actually, I like the other hat a lot too–not dorky at all…or maybe a bit dorky, but good dorky. Thanks for the nice comment on my blog, BTW.
